Something is different during this election season. Two years ago, we saw Duke & Company signs in yards all over Town. We saw Democrats actually picketing Supervisor Duke's opponent's place of business. We saw support for Pam Duke and her running mates.
That year was also a year when Democrats swept to power all over the County. They were successful in blaming Republicans for the jail scandal even though every Democrat in the Legislature voted for the jail project while several Republicans voted against it. They were able to convince us that the Republicans were to blame for the 39% tax increase when, in fact, the County Administrator assembled the budget that year. The County Democrats had coattails that brought Democrats into power in areas no one would have imagined a few months before.
This year, however, is different. Very, very different.
The Democrats in the Legislature are in disarray, fighting amongst themselves in what seems to an extension of the power struggle between County Democratic Chair John Parete and the ultra-Liberal faction of the Party apparently led by Legislator Susan Zimet. The Democratic vote for DA appears to be headed for a split between Party nominee Jonathan Sennett and the son of the late Judge Bradley, Vincent Bradley, Jr., who has registered as a Democrat but will not actually become one until after the election. Such a split will all but guarantee a win for Republican Holley Carnright. Even in the City of Kingston, which conventional wisdom calls a Democratic stronghold, there is a good chance of a Republican victory in both the Mayor's race and the election for Alderman-at-Large. The public employee's union has endorsed the Republican challenger, leaving Mayor James Sottile without a critical piece of support while Republicans Richard Cahill and Leonard Walker are picking up endorsements and donations left and right.
In our Legislative District, if we vote for only three candidates and leave the other slot empty, we will not only re-elect Sue Cummings, who has served us so well for so long, but possibly give her another Republican-Conservative from this District.
The weakening of the County Democratic momentum from two years ago means that Democrats in local races throughout the County cannot count on the extra votes they had in 2005. They will have to work for each and every vote personally.
Here in the Town of Rochester, we're seeing very few Duke & Company signs in people's yards. The ones we see are on public property and in front of empty businesses like the former carpet store and the defunct barbecue restaurant. This is important because it means people who once supported Pam Duke are ashamed to do so this year.
Many people have publicly declared that, even though they voted for the Supervisor in previous elections, they will not be doing so this year. Many who had Duke signs in their yards in the past cannot justify doing so this year, unable to face their neighbors to explain how they could possibly support someone who holds the people of Rochester in such disdain. Which is not to say that they are secretly supporting the Supervisor. If you ask them, they will willingly tell you just how disgusted they are with the Board.
This isn't about Parties anymore. It's about those who love our Town and those who hate what we are so much, they would do anything to change it. You see, the Town is not mountains and rocks and deer and trees. The Town is the People, pure and simple. If you hate us, you hate the Town. Our Democratic neighbors are just as sickened by the behavior of the Board as the rest of us are.
To stem the bloodletting, Democrats are handing out pamphlets claiming their candidates stand for unity, progress, rural character and Open Government when everyone knows just how untrue those claims are. They are taking telephone "polls" and using the opportunity to attack Carl Chipman when the respondent indicates that he or she will be voting United Rochester. Their mailings and statements claim that the Supervisor and Board have stood for values which they trampled underfoot, that they will stand for principles in the future which we find important but upon which we have seen the Board spit. In typical Party machine fashion, they promise everything under the sun, most of which was promised before and which the Board failed to deliver.
They were terrified of giving their own Party's rank and file a real choice in whom they wanted to nominate.
On several online forums, their supporters have launched a series of vile, highly personal attacks on many of the leaders of the opposition. It seems they're getting desperate.
On the other side of the equation, people are not only proudly displaying Conservative-Republican-United Rochester signs, they are making their own, hand drawn and otherwise. Private citizens are having signs printed at their own expense. A few of our neighbors spent days making the giant United Rochester sign across from the entrance to Boice Mill Road. People are volunteering their own time to call their neighbors and encourage them to vote for the United Rochester ticket on November 6.
Only ten days to go. We're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. We're about to take our Town back from those who are steering us on a course to destruction. The only thing we need to make it happen is you.
We need you to vote Row B or D on Election Day. We need you to call everyone you know and encourage them to vote for Carl Chipman and the United Rochester Team, your Team. If they are unaware of how their rights are being stolen from them by the Duke Regime, tell them. Make them aware of the issues. Point them to this blog or the Republican website. Let them read about the issues and see how the other side uses personal attacks to respond to issue oriented criticisms of the Board.
We need you to find out if anyone you know needs a ride to the polls on Election Day. If they do, take them to vote. we need you to convince others to do all these things, as well.
Above all, we need you to pray for our Freedoms. Never underestimate the power of prayer.
We need you to take ownership of this Election and this Town.
This is Our Town. Town Hall is Our House. The Supervisor and Board are Our Employees.
Ours. Yours and mine and all our neighbors'.
Together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.
Together. We need you. You need you.

it sure is different this year....the only person who has come to my door is democrats...and you guessed it...it is not the republicians.....and i was extremely impressed with the democrats...i am not registered in a party, but they sure made my mind up....i hear what is going on in this town and the mud slinging is terrible...and i DONT want the republicians in office....so if you dont know who you are voting for vote DEMOCRAT...at least they are educated
To read a different point of view go to http://tor2007.blogspot.com/
The Democrat candidates are no more educated than the Republicans. But if they were, would that mean that they have the right to stomp all over us? To lie about the porn site? To take away our free speech? To do things to us they never talked about during the last election and forget the promises they did make? To force all of us who aren't their kind of people out of Town? The Democrat candidates hate us all and re-electing them to continue the garbage they have been doing would be insane.
do we know the porn site was not real????? think about it......we dont!!!!!!
.
anonymous, you are ruining everything. turn off the computer and do something constructive, instead of destructive.
What the hell do you mean "do we know the porn site as not real"? Now I know the guy writing this blog is right about our civil rights!!! Innocent until proven guilty, for example! If the Board had evidence, they would have shown it to the judge in court. No evidence, no porn site. No porn site, the Board is lying. What's so hard to understand?
We don't know what the Board is saying, they are still bound by there confidentiality agreement with Manuela. Why doesn't Manuela just waive the agreement so we, the rest of the town, hear their side of it. No, we would want to do that, that would take all the wind from your sails.
Irme, you say you are speaking for the people, and that the Republicans are standing for the people against the arrogant, incompetent, fascist Democrats. I have issues with everything you stand for and have posted here.
You say that you do not allow personal attacks, yet I see some of the people who disagree with you called fascists or worse.
You say that a vote for the Democrats will further divide the town. Yet all I see from you is more and more divisive talk, us against them, etc etc.
You say that the town board is violating our civil rights by holding closed meetings. I have been to several of the meetings regarding the update of the zoning code, they seem to be open and amenable to discuss the issues with concerned citizens.
(never mind the original zoning ordinance was passed in executive session by a Republican board).
You say the Republicans are for the people. Where are they, I have yet to see a single republican campaigning this fall. I have had the town supervisor stand on my porch and answer all of the questions I put to her.
You say that together there is nothing that we cannot accomplish. I agree, but how are you going to bring people together after this election?
Then there is the whole issue of the Manuela porn incident. How do we know what really happened? All we have is your word on it. Are we supposed to believe you?
I saw somebody mention the "outsiders" What outsiders? They purchased houses and land here from who? From you and your family that's who. You don't like what this town has become, look in the mirror. Your the ones who sold them the land, and thus the right of residence and the right to vote.
The threats, the bombastic blog, the nails in the driveway, setting the democratic chairman's house on fire (Oh, no wait, he probably did that himself so he could frame the Republicans) and all the rest of the stupid bullshit has. to. stop.
I find you and the Rochester Republican club guilty of all the things you accuse the Democrats of doing. The lying, arrogance, ignorance and incompetence is laid bare for all to see in this blog. As somebody once said, it is always the thief who thinks he's been robbed.
The people in this town are not stupid, I believe they can see through your charade.
I know you Irme, you don't know that I know you but I do. You stand behind the first amendment. I stand behind the second amendment.
so let me say once again......do we know the porn site is false....no we dont....the good people of the town know when they are being lied to and who they can trust....VOTE DEMOCRAT
Hey Ms. Anonymous, one thing you are right about, people of this town are not stupid. Not one thing in your rant is of substance, you are just a hate monger. We listen to you express your hatred of your neighbours at the last Zoning meeting. And you posting speaks for itself.
Manuela has waived the trial papers, I’ve read them, but you’re so blinded by hate for anyone who doesn’t think like you, you would not be able to see it if it was spoon feed to you, such is your hatred. You defend the indefensible.
In case you haven’t noticed people that sold their house to you are long gone. The ones still around are the ones feed up with you..
You say all Republican are guilty without proof, what Constitution is that you believe in? Certainly not the one that says innocent until proven guilty. But you say it with such authority like we should believe you because you say it. If we are guilty of anything, we are guilty of disliking the likes of you. You friend didn’t burn his (?) house down, I heard it just a wicker basket he placed on his(?) stove. Then in solidarity you all said you had nails thrown on your driveways. How stupid is that?
And you do not speak for real Democrats, you intimidate and lie to the local Democrats. You just speak for the narrow bunch of narcissistic hacks that are trying to get your witch re-elected. Get off this blog, go find another place to haunt. Happy Hallow Weenie. Or come out of the dark so we can see your costume. Until then you are deserving of scorn.
You must be worried about the election. Boo, do we scare you?
Vote UNITED ROCHESTER and get this town back to the people and out of the hands of ideologues.
And Ms. Anonymous what’s that bit about the second Amendment?
“I know you Irme, you don't know that I know you but I do. You stand behind the first amendment. I stand behind the second amendment.”
Is that a veiled threat? You are a real scum. Get lost jackass.
Goodness gracious. The Lefties sound desparate. Next Wednesday, they can help Pam work on her resume.
it should be fun next wednesday when we see carl crying.....and trying to keep a stiff upper lip...that will be hard.....
As a new resident of this town and as a Puerto Rican American, I don't feel like you guys are very welcoming. Sometime I get looks in the gas station because of my dark skin. What are yous looking at???
How can I expect the rest of my family to move here if I don't even feel welcomed?
You are a real scum. Get lost jackass.
The Rochester Republican Club's answer to Town Unity. BTW, the republican club is different from the republican's who live in this town.
if you have just moved into this town you are looked down upon...it does not matter what color you are...you are not made welcome.....bad things happen...so it is better to keep quiet and vote democrat.....
NO, it's NOT BETTER to 'keep quiet & vote democratic'. THAT is NOT the AMERICAN WAY. The American way is to STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN with your WHOLE being. People DIED for your right to do that. (Have you forgotten that?) FREEDOM ISN'T FREE. Someone's father, mother, son, daughter, etc. died for that right. So if you TRULY believe in something, STAND UP FOR IT, and at least have the character to put your name to it & not HIDE behind ANONYMOUS.
And how silly to say newcomers aren't welcome here. But when people move here because they like it here, why do they try to change so many things about it? What's with that? This isn't North Bergan, this isn't Long Island, this isn't Westchester, this is a little, friendly, rural country town, pretty much in the middle of nowhere. If you don't like it here once you move here, if it's not what you thought it was, then move somewhere else. But don't take it upon yourselves to change our peaceful, little town into what you want. What gives you the right to do that? Did God appoint you His assistant?
Enjoy this beautiful autumn day.

I just moved up to this area from southern New Jersey and I have to say that people are pretty mean. I have never had so many people tailgate me in my life. Even the people from New Jersey were more polite. It just seems like there is a lot of hate in the air.
The reason I moved here is because my sister said there is some room for minorities in local politics. I plan to run for a high level office. I would like to clean up what is wrong about the area - messy properties, too much pollution, need better zoning and way, way too much hunting. Trust me on that last one. As a vegetarian, that is going to change. We need better gun control.
Dear Sir or Madame, not sure because you didn't state your name:
If you think there is sooooo much wrong with it here, then why move here?
Why do you take it out of context Anonymous, when I called the Anonymous scum and a jackass I did so because Anonymous hinted at a physical threat to Imre, by issuing a warning. That person, wrote they knew Imre and Imre did not know who they were, and then stated they believed in guns, that is what the Second Amendment is. That was an imbecilic veiled threat. No one has ever threaten physical violence on this site before and for a cowardly supporter of Pam Duke to make such a threat just shows you how corrupt the ideologues in her administration are.
So twisted are those ideologues that they try to pervert reason. It’s okay that they say such stupidity but I’m criticised for calling attention to the idiot that made that threat. A true coward is one who physically threatens people and hide behind anonymity. That person is scum and if you are the one that made that physical threat to shot Imre, you are scum and I’ll say it to your face in public, coward.
P.S. I'd stand up for anybody that gets threatened to be shot by a nutjob hiding in the shadows, be they Republican or Democrat and I don't own a gun.

enough of this... it's time to go throw my trash outside, light my burning barrel, fire up my old pick-up truck & drive around my property to see where my next shack will be built, then i think i'll get the shotgun out & go hunt some deer, light the BBQ & grill me a BIG, FAT STEAK. LOL, have a great night, everyone.
Funny how one of PD's supporters wants the second amendment and another wants gun control. Can you guys make up your minds? FYI, both Manuela and Tavi moved here from somewhere else not so long ago. Yeah, you guys are right. Nobody here welcomes outsiders, they just work their hearts out to get them elected. No consistency. No logic. Just brainless lashing out because your dreams are going down the toilet. Republicans, Democrats and everyone else are getting together to kick PD's butt out of office and FG too. Good riddance. If you thought you were going to win, you wouldn't be so nasty. Your comments show just how afraid you are of losing.
It's only a couple days before the decision is made by the majority of citizens in our town. As a registered Republican, I have voted every year since becoming 18. I don't think I have ever voted a straight ticket ever in the past. I can assure you that I will absolutly be casting a straight ticket this year.
In the past 20 years, never have I seen such a heated race as for this years Town election. To have people post signs distancing themselves from a candidate based on their family name and to see people get involved that have never done so before is a telling sign that change is about to come.
I can only hope that that change is more for the people and less for the politicians and government in general.
TO anonymous on 10/31 That is exactly the attitude whichs annoys the people who grew up here you move in and want to change what we love about the area I have no problems with dealing with environmental issues but you moved to a small town where schools used to be closed for the first day of deer season and is a tradition in families dating back centuries. As for gun control that only means you hit your target. I always hear from liberals and democrats live and let live but you don't respect my lifestyle and want to change mine !!
